The great success of any event is determined in two key areas: the overall guest experience, and the details of the atmosphere you create. One such detail that should never be overlooked is napkins.
Napkins serve as not only a functional aspect to event where food and drink is served, but they can also serve as a decorative element. I love when I’m at an event or party and I hear the shock and awe of someone gazing at a tablescape and they say something along the lines of…”That’s a napkin? I never would have guessed.” It’s makes me giggle every time.
For my Hearts and Hazelnuts Housewarming Party, I decided to turn my pink napkins, into lovely hearts that could adorn my table or don the mugs to match the Pink Hazelnut Coffee I was serving. Here’s how I made them.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Make a Paper Napkin Heart
Creating a paper napkin heart is a simple yet charming craft that adds a decorative touch to any occasion. Whether you’re setting a romantic table, adding flair to a party, or crafting with kids, this easy tutorial will guide you through the process of folding a paper napkin into a perfect heart shape.

- Unfold the Napkin – Begin by fully opening the napkin and smoothing out any creases to ensure clean folds.
- Fold the Napkin in Half – Take the napkin and fold it in half horizontally (hot dog style), aligning the edges evenly.
- Fold in L Shape – Fold the napkin in half vertically, creating an “L” shape. Repeat again on the other side.
- Shape the Heart – Adjust the top edges by tucking and folding the corners inward, rounding them out to create the classic heart shape.
- Final Adjustments – Smooth out any creases and ensure the heart shape is symmetrical. If desired, decorate with a ribbon, place a small note inside, or use the napkin as a festive table accent.

Tips for a Perfect Paper Napkin Heart:
- Use a thicker napkin for a more defined shape.
- Iron the napkin beforehand to remove any wrinkles.
- If the napkin is too stiff, lightly mist it with water to make folding easier.
Creating a paper napkin heart is a quick and delightful way to enhance any setting. With just a few folds, you can add a handmade, heartfelt touch to your décor!
Happy folding!
